چکیده

Strategic Voting In British Elections In this paper we examine the extent to which voters engage in strategic behavior. Our contribution is accounting for the context in which voters have the opportunity to behave in a strategic fashion. We also demonstrate that previous measures of strategic voting significantly underestimated the willingness of voters to engage in strategic behavior when presented with the opportunity to do so. We use as cases for our study of strategic voting behavior two recent elections in Britain, the 1987 and 1997 general elections. Our analysis produces estimates of strategic voting in these elections that are substantially greater than reported in previous research.

Voting by Adaptive Agents in Multi-Candidate Elections

Here we investigate how strategic adaptation changes our understanding and predictions of voting systems. We model populations of agents voting in multiple elections over time that revise their voting strategies based on electoral outcomes. Using this framework we examine the dynamic formation of electoral outcomes. Allowing agents to adapt their strategies refines the predictions of rational c...

Strategic, sincere, and heuristic voting under four election rules: an experimental study

We report on laboratory experiments on voting. In a setting where subjects have single-peaked preferences, we find that the rational choice theory provides very good predictions of actual individual behavior in one-round and approval voting elections but fares poorly in explaining vote choice under two-round elections. We conclude that voters behave strategically as far as strategic computation...
